Sweet pongal recipe with sugar - Sakkarai pongal or Chakkara Pongal
Sweet pongal is one of the most common sweet dish of South India which is prepared during Pongal festival. It is a type of prasadam or naivedhyam which is offered to God during festivities. It is also known as Sakkarai pongal or Chakkara Pongal.Ingredients for Sweet Pongal
(Note : 250 ml cup used)- Rice - 1/2 cup
- Moong lentils - 1/2 cup
- Sugar - 3/4 cup white sugar or brown sugar
- Green Cardamoms - 4
- Ghee - 3 tablespoon
- Cashews - 10 to 15
- Raisins - 6 to 10
- Milk - 1/3 cup (Optional)
- Edible Camphor - 1 pinch (Optional)
- Water - 3 cups
How to make sweet Pongal with sugar?
- Add moong lentils and rice to a pressure cooker. Wash them well.
- Add water and cook them until they are completely cooked.
- When the pressure of cooker is down then open the lid and mash the mixture. If you're using milk then add milk to the mixture. Adding milk is optional.
- Add sugar, cardamom powder to this mixture and mix them very well.
- Heat ghee in the pan and fry the cashews and raisins until they turn aromatic.
- Off the flame and add a pinch edible camphor to it. Adding camphor is also optional.
- Now transfer all the fried ingredients to the mixture of cooked rice and moong lentils.
- Mix well and cook for a minute on a low flame.
- Now your Sweet pongal recipe with sugar is ready to serve.
