Diwali falls on the new moon during Kartik month. It i  s considered as one of the auspicious time of the year. People eagerly wait for this time of the year to purchase new home, new vehicle, shop etc.
History of Diwali
Diwali is celebrated each year to commemorate the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom, Ayodhya. It is said that when Lord Rama, Lakshman and Sita returned Ayodhya then the whole Ayodhya was lighted with Diyas to welcome them. Now, people follow this ritual even today.
Diwali - Festival of Lights

Diwali is festival of lights which is one of the most popular festival celebrated in India. Diwali is a good time to bond with our near and dear ones. On this auspicious day all people light up their houses with Diyas, Candles and Lights. People decorates their houses with flowers and also makes Rangoli. Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped in every household during Diwali. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi brings prosperity and good fortune. 

Diwali is all about having sweets, burning fire-crackers, decorating houses with lights & diyas, and spending some quality time with the loved ones. People visits at each others houses and exchange gifts.
