Sources of Solid Waste

There are various sources of solid wastes. Some of them are given below:

Industrial waste

Industries are producing tonnes of solid waste daily. It produced the waste like ashes, construction materials etc.

Agricultural waste

Agriculture is also a source of solid waste. It produces the waste like pesticides, agricultural waste etc.

Residential waste

Residences and home are the most common sources of solid waste. This waste contains the trash like paper, plastic, food items etc.

Biomedical waste

Biomedical waste refers to the waste of hospitals. This waste contains syringes, plastics, medicines etc.

Institutional waste

The waste which is produced by the Institute centers like school, colleges or government offices is known as the institutional waste. This waste contains food wastes, plastics etc.

As all these waste materials are hazardous so the proper disposal of all these waste materials is necessary.

Types of Solid Waste Management

Solid Waste management is necessary for the proper disposal of all the hazardous waste produced by various human activities. There are different types of Solid Waste Management. Some of them are given below:

  • Incineration
  • Sanitary Landfilling
  • Composting
  • Recycling

E-Waste Management

E-Waste management refers to the management of electronic or electrical waste. The product became an e-waste when it is discarded due to the end of its useful life. There is a lot of e-waste produced daily which is hazardous for human health as well as for the environment. Electronic waste consists of used electronic items like computers, TVs, Mobiles etc. It also includes the used items which are for resale, reuse, recycling or disposal.  To reduce the harmful effects of e-waste Recycling of electronic waste is done in the process of E-Waste management.

Waste Management & energy

Waste management is necessary for a clean and fresh environment and also for producing energy. Waste Management is used to generate heat and electricity.

Waste-to-energy

Waste-to-energy (WtE) is a process of energy generation in the form of electricity or heat. Waste-to-energy is also known as Energy-from-Waste (EfW).  Waste-to-energy generates heat or electricity through the process of combustion. And it also produces fuels like methane, ethanol etc. Incineration is the most common method of performing Waste-to-energy process.
